I would have to say that the one great thing is...
"The Freedom to Choose"
Precious metals ownership protects our wealth (work) from confiscation through inflation. That gives us resourses when others lose theirs. What we are left with then is the freedom to choose our path, while the rest have no choice but to live in the trap that was set for them.
If you really want to go hard-core, here is my mantra.
To the extent possible, for man to be truly free, he must do that which will eliminate his need for money, for money is slavery in disguise.
Money wasn't needed to break this land. All that was was needed was a strong back and a will to live. This is obviously unachieveable for most today, but it's the idea that counts.
In every instance that you choose to let fiat money be the medium for exchange for your needs, you succumb to the vices of that medium.
F'rinstance. If you are unwilling to grow your own food, you will have to earn money to pay someone to grow it for you. Thus you need to do someone elses bidding for your pay. You allow yourself to be your employers slave. If you are self-employed, you have the tax-man in the middle as your master.
However, if you choose to grow your own food, every effort you make toward that end is working for yourself. Yes, it is still work, but it is work you choose. It is work free of taxes. It is work without a middle-man. It's what is known as "honest work". If you over produce, you have goods for barter.
Everyone needs fiat money for some 'thing' these days, so it really is impossible to completely eliminate the need for it, but perhaps you can see where I'm going with this.
Ultimately, you have the choice.
