OT Virus alert
My PC fell over yesterday, I'd downloaded what I thought was an offer of free software from Microsoft (who send me regular updates)and got something called MSTools which turned out to be a major trojan virus, which blocked access to the web, said I'd got 40 viruses which I hadn't, and was looking for my credit card details to buy software to cure it. It was quite a major infection, I've since altered my bankaccount log in details etc. Obviously I didn't feed them my credit card details.
What I did find out, is that if you hit the F8 button continually after booting the PC (but before you go into the password prompt), you can select 'safe mode'. If you do that then find 'accessories' within the 'all programmes' section from 'start' there's a folder called 'system tools'. Once in tools you can actually select 5 days previously and your computer will take your whole installation back to as it was 5 days before, hopefully before the infection hit, if that doesn't work you can go back another 5 days and so on.
I did that and am thankfully back to normal, it could have been an expensive mistake which is why I'm posting the alternative, which took about 5 minutes.
