Golden Minerals is a junior silver producer with a strong growth profile, listed on both the NYSE Amex and TSX.
I am very upset at this placement. Yes this company has the goods, but unfortuanately seems beholden to a big investor to make the moves they think they need to make. As usual for me, I wrote to Jerry Danni of my disappointment:
"Hi Jerry,
I was disappointed in learning that Golden Minerals issued shares to the Sentient Group at the lows of the recent past. As you may remember from our brief meeting at the Golden Minerals Annual Meeting, I have been a shareholder of ECU Silver for over four years plus now, and have witnessed continued games with the stock in Canada, and dilution of that company with cheap secondary offerings to just keep the companies head above water in order to go in and wash and rinse again. There are many retail investors who are very upset at your actions. Did Golden actually need the money now, at the low? Were the bids pulled to let the stock drop to facilitate the issuance of stock at this price? Shall we expect the same sort of sweetheart deal when Sprott or other “insiders” want more stock? Wouldn’t it be nice if these folks had to go into the market like the rest of us to take positions? That would actually make the share price rise! While I don’t expect answers to these questions and I remain supportive of your company, I am terribly concerned that the same old same old is playing out with Golden Minerals as has been the case with ECU. There needs to be a compromise between what is expedient for your institutional shareholders and the desire to add value for us retail people.
I hope this offering will now open the way for some support for this stock in the form of some substantial news and institutional buying. However if I were an interested institutional buyer I would be as concerned as I am that something of this sort would be allowed to happen again."
As usual I urge everybody to write to Jerry with their concerns. Sure this will probably help us in the long run, but if Golden wants to be a real deal they need to do real deals.
