CSI: Comex
Bill,
Whenever there's a highly orchestrated, telegraphed cartel takedown such as this I always sift through the wreckage for clues. The cartel leaves evidence at the crime scene whether they know it or not. While this is still a crime in progress (FND next week, light holiday trading, likely maximum yearly limit at $1,780) we already have some "tells" to observe.
* Gold is VERY resistant to sub-$1,700, and acts none too happy about even being sub-$1,800. Previous cartel missions to the abyss would have flushed far more longs. The fact that the cartel is struggling to hold gold under $1,700 on op. ex. day is big. Like a few other recent op. ex. days gold is acting more resilient to being pushed around. This is in spite of gold margins being jacked back up to $11,475. The RSI hasn't been this low since late September, when gold subsequently rose $200 over the next 2 months. We're setting up for an explosive Q-1 in 2012.
