I have heard a commentator only yesterday, it may have been on CNN International, that Ron Paul being in third place in Iowa polls could win because he is different from the two front runners who in turn are practically the same and old guard.

The public could easily be dissatisfied with status quo and vote for Paul.

Hence the tar and feather brigade came out for him.
