Hard to know for sure but between the stock being mega cheap, some techincally indicated bounce, maybe short covering (who wouldn't cover at these massively depressed prices). improving fundamentals and a better tone to precious metal equites in general, there has to be some truth.

I've kinda given up trying to figure it out in short term pieces and am focussing on medium and long term where I am 100% confident that AUM will go much higher as will many gold equities and gold/silver. More than ever I think AUM is the cheapest stock on the board, this is the asy part. How it became so is the harder part but if I focus on the medium to long term it probably won't matter what has transpired, only what will be !!
