I've been investing in this sector for a long time and this is starting out as one of the most outrageous days I have experienced.

Shortly after the metals started trading in New York this morning - silver sells off sharply with no related currency move or stock market future move. Oil stays steady and is still up over 1% on the day.

Yet Silver sits down 2.42% on the day.

Then one of my favorite stocks, Almaden, gets absolutely hammered on large volume without any news that I have been able to find anywhere.

Of one thing, I am fairly certain. The regulators will do nothing about any of this. I've sadly come to the conclusion that their mandate is usually to find excuses for the wrongdoers. Not just in the financial world. Government Regulation is lacking in many areas.

Almaden closed yesterday at 2.13, fell as low as 1.55 this morning and is now back up to $1.89.

I wouldn't be stunned to see it close up today - maybe this morning's massive volume was a big shakeout of smaller investors who had no way to know what was going on. I also wouldn't be stunned if it revisits $1.55. A system that allows this type of unexplained volatility needs to be investigated, in my opinion.
