As long as they can buy sufficient gold jewellery from impoverished middle classes and they have windfall opportunities (Lybia etc). That doesn't sound like enough IMO. Knowing that the BOE sold its gold in 1997 to stop the LMBA from collapsing, I wonder where the rescue will come from this time.
