Two-Day Athabasca Oil Sands Conference Well Received on all Fronts

CALGARY, Sept. 24 /CNW/ - The Oil Sands Trade Show and Conference wrapped up yesterday after a highly successful two day conference and exhibition at Northlands Agricom in Edmonton. Considered the world's largest and most significant oil sands event, the 2009 Oil Sands Trade Show and Conference lived up to its reputation. One of the show highlights was the newly expanded Athabasca Oil Sands Conference.

"The response to the expanded Conference was very positive," said Wes Scott, Event Director, dmg world media. "With the focused exhibition, in addition to the two-day conference, visitors were given information and shown technologies of the highest caliber."

The theme of the Conference was Optimal Outcomes: Changing the Face of the Oil Sands through Innovation and Collaboration and brought together several industry heavy weights for a Roundtable Discussion: Changing Perceptions of the Oil Sands in the International Market. One of the keynote speakers and roundtable contributors was Jim Carter, Chair of the Alberta Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Development Council and former President and Chief Operating Officer of Syncrude Canada.

"The Oil Sands Trade Show and Conference showcased integral information related to the industry and positively influencing its perception in the international marketplace," said Carter. "The show highlighted significant technological developments to ensure a sustainable and environmentally conscious future of the oil sands industry."

Another highlight of the show was the GO GREEN Environmental Pavilion, back for the second year in a row. This popular show feature expanded in 2009 due to increased demand from visitors and exhibitors. At the GO GREEN Environmental Pavilion, companies displayed their products and services focused on improving environmental effects of extraction, upgrading, refining, and transportation of bitumen. Other show highlights included the Fort McMurray Mine Site Tour and Heavy Oil 101 course.

The 2010 Oil Sands Trade Show and Conference takes place September 21 and 22 at Northlands Agricom in Edmonton, Alberta.
