Great Lakes Graphite Inc. is an industrial minerals company with the mandate to bring graphite projects to production through the acquisition and development of high quality graphite flake properties.
TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 3, 2015) - Great Lakes Graphite Inc. ("GLK" or the "Company") (TSX VENTURE:GLK)(OTC PINK:GLKIF)(FRANKFURT:8GL) is pleased to announce that it will receive a financial contribution of up to $30,000 from the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) to help support graphite purification research and development at Process Research ORTECH, located in Mississauga, Ontario.
Paul Gorman, CEO stated "We are honoured to receive recognition in the form of this support from the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program. The purification work we are conducting with Process Research ORTECH is aimed at developing processes to produce an ultra-high purity carbon product. We believe that our partnership with Process Research ORTECH is representative of several steps that are being taken by us and others, towards securing a leadership position for Canada in the global battery and energy storage supply chain. I would like to thank NRC-IRAP on behalf of our Company and our partners for doing so much to encourage emerging businesses and unique technologies in Canada."
Funding and advisory services from IRAP will be used to support the work described in the news release regarding GLK's technology partnership with Process Research ORTECH distributed earlier this year, on June 12. The main objective of the partnership is to develop a purification process to achieve a graphite product of +99% purity that is highly economical while incurring the least environmental impact.
Beneficiation of graphite concentrate to a 99%-plus purity level is a requirement for use in lithium-ion batteries and for other high technology applications. For example, semiconductor technology demands constant innovation and ultra-high-purity materials from suppliers. Products made from high-purity fine-grain graphite meet these requirements. Development of materials for wafer production processes and coatings enhance the purity of the next semiconductor generation, while extending the service life of materials at the same time.
Battery Raw Materials Conference / Graphite Field Trip
Benchmark Minerals Intelligence is offering attendees to their "Battery Raw Materials and Supply Chain 20/20" Conference in Toronto on September 24th the opportunity to sign up for a Graphite Field Trip.
The half-day outing, scheduled for the day following the conference, is being hosted by GLK and Process Research ORTECH and conducted at the PRO facility in Mississauga, Ontario. Participants will see a live demonstration of graphite concentrate production and will hear presentations on micronization and purification, LEAN manufacturing of value-added graphite products and how GLK and our partners are planning to help establish Canadian leadership in energy storage technology.
