In my view, their achievement (thing of value) is in the coating of silicon and control of the swelling issue.  Even if they had the quartz mines, they would still need to be able to purify and produce the smaller spherical silicon particles (like what the QRR does).  As such, I would think more of them as a customer or potential collaborator / the partner.
