Achieved final critical milestones, completing a successful silicon pour
Although HPQ’s corporate presentation mentions batteries as one of the various commercial applications of fumed silica, the applications that first comes to mind when fumed silica is discussed are usually personal care, pharmaceuticals, adhesives and sealants. Also, when discussing battery anode improvements, it usually is silicon (Si) and Nano Silicon not SiO2 or fumed silica that is mentioned. I believe most people do not really make the link between fumed silica and battery components.
Considering the facts :
that the Quebec government has invested in HPQ for the development of it’s silicon (QRR) and joined by the federal also invested in fumed silica.
that the Quebec government says that it’s first phase of investments in the battery sector are almost completed, but on the anode subject, so far, have mainly only announced major investments in graphite. And that everyone is agreeing that battery performances need to be improved and that in the short term it will most certainly come from the addition of some type of Si to the current graphite anode.
that the federal government did not include silicon in their critical material list.
- Did potential utilization of fumed silica in battery have an impact in your decision to get away from the development of NSiR ?
- Are any of the companies under NDA involved in fumed silica for the battery sector ?
- Are you currently negotiating with governments (provincial and/or federal) to further their involvement in HPQ’s projects ?
