I will venture to give an answer on a part of you questions for conversation sake, but this is only my understanding of what has been published so far.

I guess it is safe to assume that HPQ/Novacium would compare their battery to a similar type.

In their March 14 press release link they compare their battery to a Samsung INR18650-35E battery.

In this Data Sheet  at the buttom of the first page, it says that the cathode is based on lithiated metal oxide (Cobalt, Nickel).
