Message: Bill would give provincial government oversight of LNG projects on

I believe this is a good thing Sudbury Novice.

This will put permitting, construction and operations all under one roof.

Here's a little bit more on the same subject.

Note the last paragraph.
.

The provincial government has introduced new legislation that will regulate LNG development on federal port lands, Minister of Natural Gas Development Rich Coleman announced February 16.

The Federal Port Development Act (FPDA) will regulate the permitting process, construction and operations of LNG projects.

“The FPDA authorizes the province to enter into agreements with the federal government and a federal port to administer and enforce provincial law on port lands,” the British Columbia government said in a release.

“For example, agreements under the FPDA would detail how the BC Oil and Gas Commission would oversee development and operations of LNG facilities at a federally regulated port.”

The release said proposed LNG projects in Prince Rupert – specifically Pacific NorthWest LNG and Prince Rupert LNG – could be the first to benefit from the new legislation.
