I was at a CIM conference where Cliffs reps made a presentation along with the KWG guys. The First Nations were consulted and were in attendance at the Conference.
At the conference they discussed the rail line, its placement and why it was chosen. You have all heard something of an alternate route. What Cliffs wanted to do originally is build the Rail line in an arch so that it (the train) could stop at every community. As it turned out there was a large bog of deep muskeg that they could not cross. As I recall it was a significant number of miles across. Double digits. Because of this bog they have decided to go straight up with off shoots to the communities. At first roads to rail .........
This is what was laid out to many of us who attended. There were no issues re First Nations at the time or any claim problems etc...
I'm not trying to stick up for Cliffs. I could care less. Cheap as far as I'm concerned but thats what I heard.
