Cliffs Natural Resources Inc. (CLF-N84.962.462.98%) has stuck a deal to buy Montreal-based Consolidated Thompson Iron Mines Ltd. (CLM-T13.380.161.21%) for $4.9-billion in cash, including debt.

The deal, announced after markets closed Tuesday, values the iron ore producer at $17.25 per share, a 30 per cent premium to the company’s closing price on Monday.
