GM,
The RR has always been the way to go for chromite due to the sheer bulk. CLF wanted a private road on KWG claims for the monster trucks (at a few minutes apart), but CLF also "embraced" the idea of the RR, because it's much cheaper in the long-term.
Slurry pipe would be fine for Ni concentrates (but they have to go through "hoops" including drying the stuff at the other end before putting it in the trucks. Initially, it may be OK, but later on NOT was considering transporting Ni concentrates and other stuff by rail (cheaper in the long-term). As indicated, the slurry pipe is a solution for Ni, but it's expensive and has only one specific application, to transport NOT Ni to the other side of the river. It's not a "universal" and multi-function/solution as the RR which is a lot more versatile since it could be used by all companies in the area for bringing in heavy equipment in... and taking the ores out of the RoF. The RR backbone (NS) could also serve as a life-line for the FN communities (they could even put their passenger cars on the train for a trip down to Toronto, or where ever). This NS RR could eventually expanded to include DeBeer diamond mine, Attawapiskat community, Moosonee (call this the Ring of Railroad, or RoR)...It would be nice to build a deep port (and call it the Port of Moosonee) there as well for ocean-going cargo ships...to transport the stuff from the RoF to places on both sides of Canada: Europe, the Orient, etc.
With all these in mind, we might as well change the name Development Corporation to Port Authority which has a nice ring to it.
Dare to dream as nation builders, LOL!
