The coalition question landed with a loud bang on the campaign trail on Wednesday, and Premier Kathleen Wynne didn’t seem entirely sure how to answer it.
Asked during a campaign stop at a school in this Toronto suburb if she believed the party that wins the most seats on June 12 deserves the first chance to form a government, Ms. Wynne spoke of her willingness to govern in a minority situation, as she has already done for more than a year. Her questioner tried again, making clear that he was asking if she would try to govern even if she didn’t win the most seats.
“I am not going to pre-empt the decision of the people of Ontario,” the Premier said. “I am just not going to do that.”
Would she try to govern from second place? Would she rule out a coalition? “I’m not ruling out anything,” she said.
