The Implications of Tsilhqot'in & Keewatin in Ontario:

Building Economic Partnerships

with First Nations and Metis Communities

Courtyard Mariott, Toronto, ON | or join via Live Webinar

Ocotber 28-29, 2014
The intersection of Aboriginal title, Aboriginal rights, treaty rights and resource development in Canada is a critical issue facing government, industry and Aboriginal peoples throughout the country, including Ontario. The Supreme Court of Canada’s recent decisions in Tsilhqot’in and Keewatin shed additional light on this issue, while raising numerous questions that demand further analysis and examination:
  • What do these cases mean for resource development in Ontario?
  • What lessons can stakeholders, including Aboriginal peoples, industry and the federal and provincial Crowns, take away?
  • How can these decisions assist all parties in cultivating stronger relationships and mutually beneficial economic Aboriginal partnerships into the future?
Join us as our expert faculty assess and clarify the legal issues and practical implications of these legal developments vis-à-vis Ontario. The session will also provide an overview on what is happening “on-the-ground,” including case studies on Aboriginal partnerships in energy generation, transmission and mining as well as a discussion on emerging opportunities in the Ring of Fire and Ontario’s pipelines.

Mark your calendars for October 28th & 29th for full analysis and thought-provoking discourse on these issues!
