Current status

On May 3, 2018 the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change signed a voluntary agreement with Webequie First Nation to make the Webequie supply road project subject to the Environmental Assessment Act.

Get details on the voluntary agreement.

Project summary

Webequie First Nation plans to build, operate and maintain a multi-use transportation corridor from the Webequie First Nation community to the proposed Ring of Fire mineral development area in northern Ontario.

The corridor will include an all-season road.

Webequie has agreed to follow an environmental assessment process for this project. This assessment will look at how the corridor and any associated infrastructure could impact the environment.

The assessment process starts with a work plan—called the terms of reference—that outlines how the assessment will be completed, including studies and consultation plans.

The Minister of the Environment and Climate Change must approve the terms of reference before the environmental assessment can begin.
