"There is nothing inherently wrong with fiat money, provided we get perfect authority and god-like intelligence for kings." -Aristotle

In time, any corruptable system will find itself corrupted by the hand and brain of man. This is why a system should have some sort of incorruptible mechanism that enables it to function within certain limits.

Think of the beauty of baseball. What if one team was suddenly allowed to fire pitches at the plate at 250 mph with a bazooka? They would be undefeatable. But who would watch? It would get boring after awhile. Games have rules for a reason. And when the rules are broken, the game isn't fun anymore.

Throughout most of human history, the gold standard has been a type of rule. Now for more than a generation we have not been playing by that rule. One team is cheating. I think ultimately people will lose interest in the game. Look at what is going on around you. What do people do for fun? Drugs? Alcohol? I can't believe the number of 40 year old women I see leaving their kids with grandparents and going out to "party." People don't want to go to a baseball game to enjoy life, they want to go and see someone get killed by someone else. Little League games involve parents getting involved in fist fights. What's wrong with people?

I'll tell you what's wrong. The system sinks into the hearts of those involved with it eventually. Everyone has made small compromises for so long, turning a blind eye to the inadequacies and inequalities of the system, that now they have become the things that their parents hated.

And I don't mean inequalities like not enough handicapped spaces in the parking lot of the Gold's Gym. I mean inequalities in pay and earnings, in money. People are willing to look the other way when others are getting ripped off, as long as it's not them.

You see, somewhere in the past people knew what gold was. But somehow they forgot the tune of the music that gold once played and replaced it with the Rolling Stones. Why? The Rolling Stones sounded better. And there was better beer at the parties where people were playing the Rolling Stones. The song of gold was forgotten.

This is what happens when you leave it up to the man on the street to decide his own destiny. He screws it up. then he looks to people like the government to help him out of his mess forgetting to note that the governement is just a bunch of people just as screwed up as he is.

Men cannot be left up to their own devices, most men at least cannot. And any system, no matter how well laid out will eventually become corrupted.

Gold is the only policeman of any economic system, and as Kennedy Gammage once stated, "You can judge the quality of a people by the quality of its money."

And our money stinks.

Long night last night...The paramedics brought in a dying baby at about 2 a.m. I asked where the parents were and he told me they hadn't come along in the ambulance. "I think they were a little shocked by the whole thing," he said, trying in typical American fashion to make excuses for even the most abominable behavior. "Do you have kids?" I asked him. "Yes" he said. "What would it take you to keep from riding tothe hospital with your dying child?" We are in strange times. Too much junk. Too many toys. Too many Chinese people working their butts off to make and sell us crap we don't need or really want. Not enough gold. Not enough silver. Not enough bike rides. Not enough laughter. But who wants to ride bikes when you can blow up aliens and eat candy bars all day long.

Guns don't kill people. Fiat money does. How much longer until we're all sitting around cheering as the lions tear apart other human beings in Yankee Stadium. "Boy baseball is a great game, isn't it? Didn't it used to be played differently a long time ago?" "No, lions eating slaves. I read about it. That's the ways its always been."
