In Abnormal Psychology, James Dines talks about how different situations in the markets "play tapes" meaning pull emotions from our psyches that are buried deep that we normally cannot conjure on our own. He writes that it is very important for us to take those opportunities to examine ourselves, how we respond to those tapes when they "play," because we cannot get those opportunities back at will.

Today was a good day to examine tapes. Look at the Dow, you like I, had a sinking feeling as it shot up today, and now it's down 40 points an we both feel much better. Look at that tape!

Nothing has changed in the world. Nothing has changed with gold or the gold or Kimber story. The tapes play and they rule over us. If we are going to win, we need to learn to rule over them.
