When talking with others, I often compare the need for gold to the need for gravity. We've tried to suspend gravity, which makes no sense.

Most of the time, I get blank looks. I remember in the early fall people ridiculed me for investing in gold, "See! It's no haven of safety! It's going down!"

As if to say, that by going to Atlantic City, eating out every night, etc were actually better "investments." At least they had a good time, right?
