Two incidents of theft from remote diamond drill sites in the Timmins area are being investigated by the Ontario Provincial Police.

The South Porcupine detachment of the OPP report that the first theft took place between Sept. 1 and 2 in the Jowsey Lake area, which is just northwest of Timmins, off Highway 101.

Thieves stole a green 2004 Polaris 500 4X4 all-terrain vehicle and a green 2001 Arctic Cat 500 ATV along with a black Bushwhacker ATV trailer.

These items were loaded onto a black Bushwhacker single-axle utility trailer and removed from the scene, police said.

The utility trailer had Ontario licence plate D9747N on it at the time.

The 2004 Polaris ATV was recovered by the Timmins Police Service on Sept. 10 at a remote location along Pine Street South in Timmins.

The second theft occurred between Sept. 7 and 9 near mileage marker 29 on the Langmuir Road, south of Porcupine.

In this instance thieves made off with more than $23,000 worth of drill rods and other accessories used in diamond drilling operations.

Anyone who may have been venturing out into these remote areas is asked to report if they saw any suspicious activity to the OPP immediately.

Anyone who may have relevant information related to either of these unsolved crimes is asked to contact the South Porcupine detachment of the OPP at 235-3345 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
