Look at their 3 goals and compare to where we are today. No, we have not reached the $100 per kWh goal, but what about the other 2 goals?
Goals
VTO's Batteries and Energy Storage subprogram aims to research new battery chemistry and cell technologies that can:
- Reduce the cost of electric vehicle batteries to less than $100/kWh—ultimately $80/kWh
- Increase range of electric vehicles to 300 miles
- Decrease charge time to 15 minutes or less.
So we are 2 out of 3 right now and closing in on that 3d goal. All of which means more lithium batteries powering EVs and more lithium demand in the future. Out of the primoridal soup of all the Lithium mining companies currently vying for supremacy and also just fighting for survival, only the strongest competitors will survive. Will LAC be in that group of survivors and also be up at the top? It seems to depend more and more on what happens with their (our) gamble on Thacker Pass. JMO
