Hyundai Motor to launch dedicated EV platform in major push into electric cars | Reuters

The article starts out with a couple of interesting paragraphs:

"SEOUL (Reuters) - South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Group said on Wednesday it will introduce an electric vehicle-only platform early next year that will use its own battery technology to cut production time and costs.

The plan underscores efforts by the world’s No.5 auto group to become a major player in the global EV market, as car makers around the world are pouring billions of dollars of investment to improve battery technology, which keeps EV prices high compared with combustion engine models."

Boldface type in the above quote was added by me for emphasis.

Hmm.  So that is the theory, all that money for investment in new battery technology is keeping EV prices high???

I wonder about that claim, since makers like Tesla are touting that they are coming out with less expensive models that will compete with the lower priced ICE vehicles in that $25,000 range of price to the consumer.  Other things are also being done by automakers to help bring the price of EVs into a more competitive lane and the concept of vertical integration isn't the private property of Hyundai Motors by any means.  They actually seem to be a little late to the party compared to other automakers as far as the idea of making their own batteries to bring down cost is concerned.
