Message: People of Red Mountain Statement of Opposition to Thacker Pass Mine

It's interesting that Peehee Mu'huh doesn't have any online reference besides in the online information provided by the various efforts to protest the mine. Looking for Shoshone & Paiute massacres (the documented ones are whites vs natives), none of them seem to have occurred there. So...was it a native vs native conflict that played out there? When did this massacre happen? So far I've not seen any of the protest sites provide any more information of what exactly happened there (other than that there was a massacre of the family members of the hunters).

I'd be interested in learning more about that massacre. Like...why did the hunters leave their families behind on the dry side of the pass (where the mine is) rather than the side that has a sheltered canyon and creek, where presumably at least some of the various medicinal plants grow a bit better than on the scruffy side?
