There are known problems with Lithium Ion batteries in cars. Almost all of them are solvable. It really isn't the huge problem that popular press "Journalists" would paint it to be. GM just screwed up! EVs with lithium ion batteries are here to stay.
The Fluoroborate salts solution is for the long term, in the more short term solid electrolyte batteries will be a huge solution. This problem draws "journalists" like flies at the picnic, but it is not near as serious as these hacks would paint it to be in the overall scheme of things. Of course, if it is your vehicle that catches fire, then it is a huge thing for your personal situation and the "J" boys and girls take advantage of that fact and ignore the obvious thing that is that he or she road to work this morning sitting on top of a gasoline bomb, their own ICE vehicle. That is what "J" boys and girls do... ignore the obvious.
JMO, but I am prejudiced when it comes to "journalists". Prejudice from experience, that is.
