Message: Washington bureaucracy could rescue Democrats from their EV tax credit problem

I thought this was an interesting article regarding the ability of EVs to qualify for the American tax credits contained in the latest bill. Basically it says that as written, very few cars would qualify because of the requirement to have a certain North American content of parts and battery materials that the current supply chain cannot satisfy.

Luckily, they say the answer is that through a combination of grace periods and creative definitions and waivers, the tax credits will be able to be accessed. It seems to be a good approach to allowing the lawmakers to be or at least appear to be taking meaningful action against Chinese dominance of the supply chain, yet providing immediate incentives for the demand side of EVs.

This approach also ramps up the pressure for establishing a viable North American supply chain within the coming years. North American battery metals should be able to charge a premium as OEMs clamor to qualify for the content requirement. This bodes very well for LAC and any of our other EV battery companies in North America.
