Here we go again, another journalist reporting on how dangerous lithium ion batteries are in regards to their ability to undergo thermal decompositin and start a fire or to explode:

There is indeed a risk of thermal runaway with lithium ion batteries:

The linked above article would convey that there is no difference in the different types of lithium batteries in their propensity to undergo thermal runaway:
Some technologies are promoted as safer, but experience demonstrated that all the Lithium-ion batteries show the same behaviour/sensitivity versus the adverse effects or battery mismanagement that may lead to a runaway.
