Message: Re: Could a Giant Fireproof Blanket Be the Solution for Stubborn EV Battery Fires?

Here we go again, another journalist reporting on how dangerous lithium ion batteries are in regards to their ability to undergo thermal decompositin and start a fire or to explode:

Tesla Megapack battery ignites at substation after less than 6 months (msn.com)

There is indeed a risk of thermal runaway with lithium ion batteries:

Suppressing Lithium-ion Battery Fires (solarfiresystems.com)

The linked above article would convey that there is no difference in the different types of lithium batteries in their propensity to undergo thermal runaway:

Some technologies are promoted as safer, but experience demonstrated that all the Lithium-ion batteries show the same behaviour/sensitivity versus the adverse effects or battery mismanagement that may lead to a runaway.
