Cal, as far as emergency use goes you can use your generator since it would only be a temporary situation dealing with the extension cords all over the house.  Besides, a 2,500 Watt set up would only power just a few things... refrigerator and 1 or 2 others.  You do have emergency capability, though... and that is probably something many of those in Texas right now would appreciate.  It wouldn't be enough to power any heat source, but it would keep the lights on.  Heating is the big quandry for emergency use because you have to have a combustion source or a huge battery that would probably be impractical, even if you could afford it.  Yup, providing heating is the most problamatic in the scenario where you have freezing temps.   I know it never gets cold in Ohio, right???
