Lithium Americas has not said who will be buying their Thacker Pass lithium output. They have said that all of Thacker Pass output is allocated. That is a lot of Lithium. Who is big enough to take it all? Probably not just one customer....Anyway the company I have been thinking that Lithium Americas will partner with is Electrovaya. Electrovaya is building a new cell/battery module plant in Jamestown, NY. A soon to be customer has a bus manufacturing facility 4 mile down the road. (New Flyer) The largest buss manufacturer in the US.. Production from this first NA plant will be first quarter 2023 which is just 6 months away. Lithium Americas production from CO will start is about 6 months, what a coincidence! Electrovaya has said they plan to build 3 cell/module plants in the US/NA. The first is in Jamestown, NY. the other two have not yet been announced. Plants are sized for 300MW per year production. I am thinking Lithium Americas will provide the lithium and Electrovaya will provide the manufacturing process. This of course is just my speculation. Watch and see what happens!!!
3 ea 300MW cell plants are not big enough to take all of the Thacker Pass output. That said, Electrovaya has a new solid state cell they plan to put in production 2024/5 with a GIGA watt hour plant. The new solid state cell has over 350Wh/Kg approaching 400. If you remember the article posted here says 400Wh/Kg is needed to make airplane EV practical. Again this is very interesting.
