Solar is one of the cleanest power sources we’ve got. But it could be even greener. (msn.com)
Hopefully the same Biden administration concern over the up stream supply chain for Solar will have a similar interest in increasing domestically supplied lithium for the up stream supply chain to create lithium ion batteries.
Bottom line is that the U.S. is moving towards more manufacturing of solar cells/solar panels here in the U.S. to decrease dependence on foreign sourced PV cells and panels. IF we do the same sort of thing regarding Li-Ion Batteries then we will need to develop our own sources of lithium in the process. What would speak better to that goal than having LAC's Thacker Pass become a reality instead of a vision?
Anyway, the article linked above is still important to LAC from at the very least the standpoint of more EVs require more power and if the utility industry is able to find cheaper ways to use domestically supplied PV cells/panels then it will be able better and cheaper to provide the needed increase in electricity for the grid to power all of those millions of new EVs.
One of the arguements against the expansion of EVs in the U.S. is that of the increased strain on the grid. Another if that of the great amount of fossil fuel needed to produce an EV. Well, as the U.S. gradually shifts further over to an alternative energy economy in general and in specific to the manufacturing of EVs, there won't be as much bite in that anti-EV argument of "too much fossil fuel energy is required to make an EV".
