04:43 PM EDT, 06/26/2018 (MT Newswires) -- Lucara Diamond (LUC.TO) said after market close Tuesday an update to the resource estimate at its AK06 Kimberlite for the Karowe open pit mine in Botswana pegged the remaining resource at 7.9 million carats as it plans adding an underground operation at the site.

The company said the estimate supports continuing open pit mining at the kimberlite's south lobe, which has produced diamonds weighing 1109 carat and 813 carats, with the two stones selling for a combined US$63 million.

The mine has so far produced over 2 million carats of diamonds since opening in 2012.

Lucara shares closed down $0.05 to $2.04 on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
