It sounds so sensationalistic when you report in the media - the cancer mortality rate is doubled. But look at the actual numbers: .45 deaths per 1000 patient years (multiply # of patients by the number of years followed) for Exubera vs .19 deaths per 1000 patient years for the comparitor group. They both are "not that high". I could live with either of those numbers.

As for screening for cancer risks in the study population for Afrezza - you would have to the study outline on clinicalstudies.gov. I don't have the time right now, but will do it later unless someone else on the board beats me to it. I do seem to recall, that they exclude patients with cancer from the study.
