Short selling is when you essentially borrow shares and sell them, betting that the stock will drop in price, allowing you to then buy them back, return the borrowed shares, and pocket the difference. Naked Short Selling is short selling a stock you haven’t even borrowed.

Naked short selling is technically not allowed in the U.S. You have to borrow the shares to short them, and there are costs involved in that.

In Canada it is allowed, and that’s where most of our stocks are listed, which is why this question is worth taking seriously. Here then is a summary of our conversation with Seth:
