Toshiba Expands Embedded Flash Microcontroller Product Line; Introducing Toshiba's First 32-Bit SuperFlash(R)-Based Microcontroller for Audio Control With On-Board USB Host Controller Aimed at Digital-Audio Applications, Including Automotive and Consumer Media Players SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC)* today announced the expansion of its embedded flash microcontroller (MCU) product line with the addition of a new 32-bit complex instruction set computer (CISC) MCU based on SuperFlash(R) technology. Designated TMP92FD28FG/DFG, it is Toshiba's first MCU to combine a high-performance SuperFlash MCU for audio control with a USB host controller. It is targeted at automotive and consumer digital-audio applications. In addition, the company introduced a mask-ROM version of the device. "Automotive and consumer entertainment systems increasingly incorporate USB connectivity to fetch music in MP3 and other compressed-audio formats. To reduce the development and manufacturing costs of these digital-audio applications, Toshiba engineered the highly integrated TMP92FD28FG/DFG MCU with its high-performance 32-bit CPU, large-capacity internal SuperFlash memory, USB host controller and various other built-in interfaces," said Roland Gehrmann, business development manager in the ASSP Business Unit at TAEC. He further elaborated that the new MCU is a key component of a complete media-player system solution from Toshiba, complementing other Toshiba ICs, including Toshiba's recently introduced single-chip CD-MP3 processors, motor drivers and audio power amplifiers. The TMP92FD28FG/DFG 32-bit MCU combines 512 Kbytes of flash memory and 32 Kbytes of RAM. The high-speed, high-performance MCU is based on Toshiba's TLCS-900/H1 processor core and operates with voltages between 3.0V and 3.6V. The minimum instruction execution time is only 50ns at 20MHz. The built-in USB host controller supports USB2.0 with full-speed operation of 12Mbps. In addition, it has a high-speed serial interface and a variety of general interfaces that can communicate with memory-storage devices, such as SD cards or memory sticks, and support the main functions required in digital-audio products.
