Maybe NEC caved because it was cheaper for them to pay now than pay later.  Unfortunately, because of the wording in the PR, it appears as though they licensed for pennies like all the others, when they should be paying dollars.  Somehow, NEC is considered a "first mover" which is PURE BS.
