We have:
Open Society Proponents
Vs
Proponents of A Society With Ownership
And don’t kid yourself! There are hardware manufacturers who have recently crossed over and joined the Open Society Proponents by dropping their traditional value add business models to simply create Generic Hardware.
Case in point: the Hardware Manufacturing Execs over at SONY were reportedly in long discussions with the Free Software Team…; the Free Software Team was supposedly trying to get them to cross over on the promise that in late 2007 that they would purchase one hundred million commoditized generic computer appliances (think OLPC): that’s a lot of production and the SONY Manufacturing folks were apparently drawn to the opportunity. The HW guys at SONY apparently lost an internal strife between the different SONY operating units (you connect the dots…).
And yes, we know what the Top Brass over at SONY apparently thought about the long-term viability of a generic/commodity Hardware alliance with the Free Software folks. SONY has also decided!
All IMHO… Go PTSC
