For all the "Heroes" that fought on this day, D-Day - June 6th.

FYI:
D-Day Trivia -Yet "Another" 6th of June, "the forgotten D-Day", in France. June 6, 1918, to be exact!!!

World War1 - The Battle of: "Belleau Wood". Please keep in mind the "Wood", was a very, large area.

The French asked, General Persing, if he had a unit that might stop the Germans from advancing on Paris.

General Pershing sent:
1. 3rd Brigade - Army
2. 4th Brigade - Marines
3. A) 6th Marine Regiment
4. B) 5th Marine Regiment
5. C) 6th Machine Gun Battalion

1). The 4th Marine Brigade stopped the Germans in the "Belleau Wood" battle.

2). It took 3 weeks to clean the "Wood" out. The troops had to take it, pocket by pocket, and machine gun nests, one, by one.

3). The Germans were introduced to rifle fire that day, like they have never seen. Americans (Marines) were making kills, at 700 yards (The 1903 Springfield Rifle).

4). The "Marines" got the name the, Devil Dog's, by the Germans because of this battle. The Germans had never come across such fire power, or encountered such tenacity, until that battle in the "Wood".

5). This is where the Marines came up with the; "Bulldog" as the Marine Corp's mascot.

6). The French re-named, "The Wood" (In English), "The of the Brigade of the Marines", not the battle of "Belleau Wood", as the Americans named it.

I’ am sure you all know this history. I just wanted to remind all.

Just a short remembrance for those that fought, on "Another" 6th of June for our:

FREEDOM
