Jap was a derogatory term 60 years ago. In all politeness I guess it shouldn't be used today.
Someone in an earlier post mentioned the 442 division. For those that do not know the 442 was composed of mostly all Japanse Americans.They were the most decorated division during WWII. They served their country courageously at a time when many Japanese Americans were separted from their home and loved ones and placed in containment camps.
The 442 showed America how wrong it was to treat it's loyal citizens in this manner. They did themselves and their Japanese counter-parts proud.
They had something to prove, they did it and we should respect this, if even by the simplest task of not using that slang.
