They used to have casinos before the revolution.Of course there was much coruption and poor distribution of wealth. Where they better off then? I don't know.I am afraid I do not know as much of the cuban history as I should, but I do agree with you wholeheartedly.

I can only say that our founding fathers were geniuses, having no examples other than grecian to go by, and come up with such a fair and just form of government. I just wish the Iraqis would think of the big picture and not let their secular differences get in the way. I pray that they will see peace one day and they will find their way.
