Twice annual dividend provides a floor of sorts.  2 cents on a 50 cent stock twice a year is 8% return.  No dividend no floor-Look out below.  Naive to think it wouldn't have an effect to do away with the dividend.  The dividend may have been the underlying reason we were "supported" at ~ $0.50.  8% return is not too shabby - now some could percieve this to be dead money until news moves the share price.   Thus the bailing out of some.  Can't really blame them as the downside risk just went up.  Hate to be right again.
