The Transputer was developed into a computer product in the late 1980s in England by Perihelion, in Cambridge/Bath (Tim King and Jack Lang were two principals I think, and Richard Miller was involved). Its software was Helios developed by Tim King (based in Bath as I recall). Atari had an interest in it (I was heading parts of their TT project at the time) for the Abaq. It operated in a farm but Atari had a tough time marketing it and only a few hundred were made. It showed up at Atari shortly before I moved 'down south'.

As such it seems it could pre-date the shBoom by a couple of years. It will be interesting to see the "prior art" argument against '336. From what I recall (hazily, from close to 20 years ago!) the Transputer was not really a standalone chip - it needed to be part of a farm.
