Insightful post. Most of what you say is right. I do, however, believe that each individual has the right to determine who their favorite posters are. We, as humans, generally align with folks that think as we think, act as we act, say and do things the same way we do.
It's difficult to embrace descent or disagreement from folks we've only met via this forum. It's also difficult to express humor and sarcasm through the messages we post. It would be much different if we were all in a room together, face to face, then we could read facial expressions and see sincerity rather than a brash statement from typed words.
Recognition from your piers can have a most powerful and most positive influence on one's self-esteem. Recognition makes us feel better about ourselves and of course, it is a natural tendacy to want to be liked/loved by everyone.
But, you are right. There will always be those folks who seek and thirst after recognition simply for the sake of feeding their own self-esteem. Sad but true.
