Empty space is filled with practically unlimited amounts of energy residing in what is refered to as the zero-point energy field (ZPE). (Read Feynman, Puthoff, Sakharov, Bedini, Bearden and others for more data)
The problem is in "engineering the vacuum" in order to derive usable energy from this background sea of energy. There are, apparently, solid state methods (Tesla's magnifying transformer, Bearden's MEG Device and others) and electromechanical methods of possibly doing this (Bedini, E.V.Gray, Adams and look into;
