Another bit of speculation- Maybe the defendant's request for stay was a channel through which the J3's legal teams would have an opportunity to express their outrage at the hefty dollar amounts to the court in an effort to gain sympathy with the judge- or maybe at least take the temperature of the judge on the dollar amounts or other key aspects of the presumed settlement proposals.
