Thank you for the response. But I have to say that I strongly believe your "observations" are incorrect, and that a majority of companies have FYs that coincide with CY. Why? Because most (retail, and retail supplier) companies experience their highest sales volume (like 75% of annual) in the Holiday season - especially for consumer electronics. And most companies want to demonstrate strength in their final FY qtr, not so much in their 1st, 2nd or 3rd.
Having said that, I'll add that the decision of timing of acquiring a license is a financial/fiscal decision more than a "how much pressure" decision. No amount of pressure from Alliacense/TPL is going to influence a company as much as their financial position/posture.
