Etrade would absolutely know as  a MM.. the number of customers trying to buy or sell the stock.... the orders that are pending on the customers account.... they can know if someone has a large supply of shares that might be trying to unload..... (if this was a marginable stock) they would know how many shares are being loaned...and on what position.... (some claim ability to margin - nonmarginable stocks with certain accounts/brokers).
