Nice article about this case. Thanks BaNosser. I'd like to make a couple points that are some what related.
First of all I think that Leckrones comments from long ago, about early signers being able to advantage their competition, may really have some merit. Let's use Intel and HP as examples. Intel pd. 20 mil. and HP pd. 30 mil. ? Fujitsu, also an early signer paid what 35 mil.
In my opinion the J3 settlement is at or above these levels, depending of course on the products they sell that infringe. The recent declatory judgement filing made by those companies is an attempt to justify the "high dollars" PTSC/TPL is asking from them. The post by MIKE_ _ _ something today explains why they would file for a declatory judgement. (Thanks for that post too.)
Finally, if the high court rules against LG in their case, PTSC/TPL would need to modify their target infringer list and go after the other chip manufacturers and they would pay dearly.... Thus creating a huge advantage for Intel, AMD and any of the other smaller chip makers who have already signed.
IMO
